The Cyber Essentials Scheme provides five controls to help prevent cyber attacks. These controls provide the basic level of protection you need to implement to secure your organisation against the majority of cyber attacks, allowing you to focus on your core business objectives.
There are two levels of Cyber Essentials accreditation available to your business.
The certification process involves a self-assessment questionnaire and an external vulnerability scan which independently verifies your security controls.
Cyber Essentials is the right certification for you if the following points apply:
You're looking for a basic security certification to demonstrate you have the controls in place
Your employees are mainly office based and their IT equipment rarely leaves the premises and is under your administration
You have physical and technical controls in place to restrict office access for third parties (e.g. clients, suppliers)
The certification process includes all the steps from Cyber Essentials as well as an additional internal scan and an onsite assessment.
Cyber Essentials Plus is the right certification for you if the following points apply:
A client has specifically requested you achieve Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation
Your employees work from remote locations (e.g. home,
client sites) and IT equipment is often outside of
Multiple third parties, such as clients or suppliers, have access to your office or your IT
