12-13-08 + Dangerous Zero-Day IE Exploit
A dangerous IE exploit is out in the wild and spreading, and could cause havoc over the coming days or weeks. It looks likes it's going to be a painful one, but as always with IT security - it was just a matter of time.
There are numerous news articles, such as :-
http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/security/soa/IE7-under-attack-from-accidental-zero-day-exploit/0,130061744,339293772,00.htm
I use Firefox and prefer it for day to day browsing, although some sites don’t work correctly. If you want to keep using IE then there are some relatively in-depth things you can do to protect it from this threat, but it does take a bit of work - http://blogs.technet.com/swi/archive/2008/12/12/Clarification-on-the-various-workarounds-from-the-recent-IE-advisory.aspx#workarounds
As you can see it may be simpler to move to Firefox if you have numerous client machines.
If have a sizeable operation then you will probably have a high-end firewall which may block the vulnerability already, i.e. Checkpoint blocked the vulnerability on the 11th of December - http://www.checkpoint.com/defense/advisories/public/2008/cpai-11-Dec.html
As always, if you have questions then feel free to contact us, without any obligation.
